An exciting opportunity has arisen to join KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM) as Tram Systems Engineer.

We are looking for a proactive, ambitious, and enthusiastic professional to join a fast-moving operational engineering team at the UK’s largest light rail operator.

As Tram Systems Engineer, you will support KAM’s rolling stock engineering team on all engineering support matters. Supporting the improvement of how Metrolink's rolling stock are maintained for effective, safe, and reliable performance.

Working under the guidance of the Rolling Stock Engineering Manager, the role is responsible for the delivery of the maintenance regime for trams and ensuring that annual safety targets are met.

KAM is the largest of its kind in the UK, employing over 900 people to deliver a first-class service to our customers across Greater Manchester.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of a high performing team through ensuring objectives, standards and key performance indicators are met. 
  • Contribute to building an inclusive culture, taking a zero-tolerance approach to behaviours and attitudes that go against the Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diersity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE) culture, escalating matters to management when appropriate.
  • Ensure own health, safety, and wellbeing in the workplace, ensuring the zero harm principles and just culture is demonstrated in all ways of working.  
  • Support on complex root cause investigations for Metrolink’s roiling stock and lead on safety critical incident investigations for KAM.
  • Keep abreast of industry best practice and deliver appropriate improvement initiatives for whole life cycle costs of Metrolink rolling stock.
  • Support the delivery of internal projects.
  • Build and maintain effective cross organisational working relationships to facilitate delivery of business plan activities.
  • Identify and liaise with third parties regarding modifications, repairs, and manufacture of tram components.
  • Ensure accuracy and correctness of data which is input and recorded in the asset management system.
  • Develop reports to monitor performance and reliability at a system level.

What you’ll bring

  • Qualified to a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or suitable experience in at least one of the following engineering disciplines:
  1. Mechanical
  2. Electrical Electronic 
  3. Electro – Mechanical
  4. Railway Engineering – Rolling Stock
  • Chartered Engineer or willingness to work towards. 
  • Knowledge of FMECA, Fault & Event Trees, Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience of working on technical projects.
  • Commercial awareness and capability to deliver cost optimal solutions.
  • Experience working in light rail or rail environment.
  • Experience of using a computerised maintenance management system.
  • Ability to analyse technical Information from a range of sources.
  • Strong communicator both verbally and in writing. 
  • Excellent IT skills including ability to manipulate data in standard Microsoft Office software.
