The Vacancy

We are looking for a Data Developer to join our IT and Analytics team within Manchester’s iconic Metrolink on a 12 months Fixed Term basis.

As Data Developer, you will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimising KAM’s data infrastructure.

Working under the direction of the Data Manager, the role will be a subject matter expert for KAM, utilising their knowledge and skills to collaborate across the company and implement effective and relevant data solutions.

KAM is the largest of its kind in the UK, employing over 900 people to deliver a first-class service to our customers across Greater Manchester. Our people are at the heart of keeping our network moving.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of a high performing team through ensuring objectives, standards and key performance indicators are met.
  • Contribute to building an inclusive culture, taking a zero-tolerance approach to behaviours and attitudes that go against the Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE) culture, escalating matters to management when appropriate.
  • Ensure own health, safety, and wellbeing in the workplace, ensuring the zero harm principles and just culture is demonstrated in all ways of working. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring efficient data collection, management, transformation, and access, enabling the analysts to create impactful Power BI workbooks.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure to support efficient data collection, management, transformation, and access.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and implement scalable solutions.
  • Optimise data pipelines to ensure high performance, reliability, and data quality.
  • Develop and maintain data integration workflows using Python, PowerShell and SQL.
  • Interface with Office 365 suite and Power Platform tools to enable seamless data access and analysis.

What you’ll bring

  • Proficient in developing and referencing pipelines using Python and PowerShell and leveraging the Office 365 suite and Power Platform for seamless data interfacing.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL databases and integration methodologies including Python and Powershell.
  • Familiarity with data visualisation and analytics tools, including PowerBI.
  • Strong analytical skills. This job involves analysing existing databases and KAM’s needs going forward regarding developing effective systems.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. As this position requires working with colleagues across the organisation, it’s important that the database developer communicates clearly.
  • Clear written skills are necessary to write understandable database documentation.
  • Accurately develop databases in a logical manner from scratch.
  • Understand the concepts of other programming languages.
  • Experience in delivering data projects covering the whole project lifecycle.
  • Educated to degree level or relevant experience.

Assessment Process

The assessment process consists of two stages: a technical assessment followed by an interview. The initial technical assessment involves building an ETL pipeline using Python and SQL (Server Management Studio (SSMS)) and will be conducted in person at our depot located at Queens Road, Cheetham Hill. Successful candidates from this stage will proceed to a final interview
